St Andrew’s College Cambridge, is the oldest tutorial college in Cambridge. The College was initially founded in 1976 to help students prepare for their A-levels with staff teaching individual subjects in their own homes.
The college was extremely successful and, with student numbers increasing rapidly, it soon became clear that a school site would be required. Two buildings were leased on Station Road as well as a building on Free School Lane located right in the centre of Cambridge off the market square.
The college bought a new site on Regent St in 2013. It commenced running university foundation programmes in 1998. GCSE courses were introduced in 2007 when the now Principal, Wayne Marshall, also joined the college as a business studies teacher. He was made Principal Administration and in June 2007 became College Principal and has remained at St Andrew’s ever since.
Pre A-level courses were introduced four years ago and two new buildings in Station Road, which had been rented to summer school provider Select English, were re-acquired for further classroom space.
St Andrew’s was purchased by Dukes Education, one of the fastest-growing education businesses in the UK, in 2021. An astroturf was laid at the back of the college the following year and further boarding leased at Tripos Court as international boarding numbers increased. A new college canteen and Science Centre opened in Glisson Road in January 2023.
